High School Revisited
Hmmmmm....shame on me! Pretty sad that it's been 5 months since my last update! But no sense trying to catch up on everything since then. I'll get right to the point.
Tomorrow is the last day of school for our district...which means I'm closing out my first year at Uintah High School in my new job. I've spent the last few days thinking back over the last year and I still can't believe how much I've enjoyed it. I ask myself, "Should a job really be this fun?"

This was the recent Senior Ball with the Willy Wonka theme, of course. We had so much fun dressing up like The Candyman himself.
I've spent the year getting to know the students and staff, attending school events and having a blast! Mixed in there somewhere is the work that I do, which you must know, I take very seriously. But at the end of the day, though I may be completely exhausted, it doesn't usually feel like work. I SO enjoy what I'm doing and the folks with whom I spend my days.

These are just the pics I had on my phone. I've developed a special bond with these new friends and so many more. One staff member, Shanon Johnson, passed away last summer before I got the chance to work with him. I knew him a little as Keaton's teacher, the girls' basketball coach, and a fellow district employee. He had so many close friends among the staff, studentbody and community and his passing left a huge void for everyone; most of all, his family.
Today, this tree was planted near our faculty parking lot in Shanon's memory. What a wonderful tribute! These folks genuinely care about each other.
So, tomorrow is the graduation of a bunch of students that I will sincerely miss. I'm excited about where their futures will take them and I'm glad to have been a small part of their high school experience. As any good secretary would do, I thought it was necessary for my boss to practice handing out the diplomas (as if she hasn't done it a million times by now) so I staged a mock graduation with the principal and Kandice, our student body president...

Whew! I think they're ready for the real thing now. What good sports!
Like I said, this job is so much fun! Here's to the class of 2010 and to school being out for the summer! ....Now maybe I can get some work done from my "Harry Potter Closet" office before they all come back in August! :)
